Lea Bult is a photographer-turned-painter, who still paints closely from photographic references and often incorporates image-transfers. Learn digital imaging and photo transfer techniques as well as other methods that incorporate photography with painting.



Create your own Zine

Chicago cartoonist and teacher, Mike Freiheit will show you how to develop, lay out, and create your own zine (self-published magazine) using common drawing materials and a photocopy machine. Students will create a collaborative jam comic to take home and an extra copy for the Zine library in the KAC artLab gallery. In addition, Mike will give brief powerpoint presentation about the different kind of zines that can be made, and the power of this rudimentary method of conveying information.

Students will create their own sketchbooks or travel journals that are suitable for drawing, painting, or writing in any media. Artist David Baker will show you how to bind high quality art papers, design your own cover, and use the finished book to capture your ideas or record your experiences.



WS2: ART, FOOD & CULTURE OF INDIA

OPEN TO ALL AGES AND SKILL LEVELS
Learn about the art, food and culture of India with Meeta Kedia!  Students will learn to design and give henna tattoos, create traditional Madhubani paintings and enjoy an authentic Indian lunch.



WS3: SCULPTURAL HANDBUILDING TECHNIQUES: CUPS, PITCHERS, AND VASES

OPEN TO BEGINNER AND ADVANCED STUDENTS
Former Columbia College Art Professor and Black Tree Studio Artist Steven Skinner will teach sculptural handbuilding techniques to create whiskey cups, pitchers and vases.  Students will learn how to throw clay to create thin slabs that can be cut, wrapped and attached to create beautiful and functional forms.  
*Students may glaze their bisque-fired pieces on Thursday, August 3 or 10, 6:30-9 PM.

Since the time of Claude Monet, artists have packed their kit and headed outdoors to record images. Watercolor artist David Baker will lead students in an exploration of this great tradition! Learn how to select suitable supplies, choose a subject, compose an image, and additional practical advice on working with watercolors outside. David will lead painting excursions on both days and students will work on 3 small paintings.
